10 Homemade Skincare Recipes You Can Make in Your Own Kitchen

This may be shocking (especially if you’re a big fan of trying fancy new skincare products) but…

You don’t need to spend a fortune on skincare.

I know? It’s big. But it’s true.

You can make your own skincare products, with ingredients from your kitchen.

There are plenty of easy ways to create your own masks and scrubs that will help your skin, for everything from hydration to soothing redness.

This article will go through ten of these incredibly easy recipes, and walk you step-by-step into making your own beauitful and relaxing creations.

1. Avocado Face Mask – Hydrates and nourishes

Avocados are known to be full of fatty acids, that will not only moisturize your skin, but also prevent it from dehydrating. Honey is also a natural hydrator.

Here’s what you will need for this mask:

-Half an avocado

-One tablespoon of honey

Mash the avocado into a bowl until it has a smooth texture, and add the honey. Give them a good mix and apply the mask onto your face. After 15-20 minutes, you’re good to rinse it off, and you’ll notice that you will be left with a smooth, well-moisturized skin.

2. Honey and Milk Face Mask – Treats acne

Combining milk and honey together into a face mask has been used for hundreds of years, and for good reason.

Besides the nourishing effects honey brings to the table, it is also used as an acne/wound treatment, as it has antimicrobial properties, and it can accelerate the healing process.

For this mask, you will need:

-Two tablespoons of honey

-Two tablespoons of whole milk

Simply mix the two ingredients, apply the mask and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Rinse it off, and repeat 2-3 times a week.

3. Lemon Scrub – Exfoliates and softens

Because lemons are very rich in Vitamin C and citric acid, they are highly powerful antioxidants. Using lemons in face masks will boost collagen production, which means that the skin will be able to maintain its elastic properties. Lemon is often used in masks due to its capacity of preventing acne and infections.

This is what you will need:

-Half a tablespoon of lemon juice

-One tablespoon of salt

-One tablespoon of purified water

The salt that is added to this ask will act like an exfoliant, removing dead skin cells. Mix everything together and rub the paste onto the skin in circular motions, without pressing too hard. Gently scrub for 2-3 minutes and rinse it off with warm water.

4. Green Tea and Apple Cider Vinegar – Reduces redness

The next recipe serves the purpose of reducing the redness that might occur. Apple cider vinegar stabilizes pH levels in your skin, and the green tea reduces redness and irritation.

For this mask, you will need:

-Three tablespoons of green tea

-Two tablespoons of oatmeal

-One tablespoon of honey

-One tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

-One tablespoon of yogurt

Mix the vinegar and yogurt to create a fine paste, and then add the rest of the ingredients. Apply the mask evenly and let it sit for about 15 minutes. After that, rinse with lukewarm water.

5. Orange Peel and Rose Water – Reduces redness and acne scars

This mask also has the power of reducing redness and acne scars. The orange peel in particular does a great job of reducing discoloration in your skin.

To make this mask, you will need:

-The peels from two oranges

-A small bottle of rose water

Grind the orange peels using a blender, until you reach a fine texture. Add them to a bowl and slowly start adding rose water. Mix until you have a thick paste and then apply it to your face. You can let it sit for 30 minutes and rinse it off with warm water.

6. Papaya and Aloe Vera – Hydrates and nourishes

This one is guaranteed to leave your face glowy and hydrated. Papaya is full of exfoliating enzymes, while aloe vera bursts with vitamins that contribute to a radiant and glowing skin.

The ingredients are simple:

-One tablespoon of cocoa powder

-¼ of a papaya

-A squeeze of aloe vera gel

Simply mash the papaya into a bowl, add the gel and the cocoa powder until you have a smooth mixture. Apply it to your skin and leave it for about 10 minutes. Then, take some tissues and take the mask off.

7. Shea Butter and Coconut Oil – Prevents dry skin

Both shea butter and coconut oil have high moisturizing properties and help prevent your skin from being too dry. If this is something you struggle with, try this mask. Here’s the ingredient list:

-One tablespoon of shea butter

-One tablespoon of coconut oil

-Optionally, one tablespoon of aloe vera

Mix everything together and you’ll get a highly hydrating mask, that you can apply to your face and leave it on for 15 minutes, after which you can rinse it off with warm water.

8. Yogurt and Cucumber – Hydrates and reduces rashes

Yogurt is great for cooling the skin and reducing rashes. Cucumber has a similar effect, so combining the two ingredients will have an immediate soothing effect.

For this mask, you are going to need:

-Half a cup of plain yogurt

-Half a cucumber

Mash the cucumber into a bowl and mix it with the yogurt until you get a nice paste. Apply it evenly to your face and leave it for 30 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water.

9. Green Tea and Raspberries – Anti inflammatory and revives the skin

For a quick anti-inflammatory mask, all you need is green tea and a handful of raspberries.

All you need is:

-4-5 tablespoons of green tea

-A few raspberries

All you have to do is mash the raspberries up and add the green tea. Gently massage it into the skin, and leave it for a few minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.

10. Banana and Turmeric – Hydrates and brightens up the skin

The last recipe may sound a bit weird, but it will leave your face bright and hydrated. This one includes a whole banana, as well as the peel. Bananas are full of potassium, as well as vitamins such as A, B6 and C.

The mask also contains turmeric, a spice well known for its beneficial impact when applied to your skin.

For this mask, you’re going to need:

Use equal parts of banana and banana peel (you can slice the peel off with a knife, and then mash it together with the fruit) and mix them with the rest of the ingredients. You should be left with a yellow paste, that you can spread onto your face and leave it for 10 minutes. Once rinsed off, apply some moisturizer and you will immediately notice a new kind of glow in your face.

There you have it.

Skincare doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. Sometimes all you need are a few ingredients from your kitchen, and a little bit of the creative spirit, to make your own spa at home.
